Pass the LPI Linux Essentials Exam on Your First Attempt

Linux Essentials is a 40-question multiple choice exam. Sounds simple until you realize it covers distributions, licensing, command line, scripting, processes, networking, users, and permissions — all in 60 minutes. Most students spend weeks bouncing between free YouTube videos, Cisco NDG labs, and Udemy practice tests. Four tabs, four different tools, no idea if they are actually ready. This course replaces all of that. Every lesson has a live terminal. Every concept is tied to an exam objective with the correct weight. Practice exams show you exactly which domains are weak.

Unit 3.3 (Scripting) is the single most tested topic on the exam — weight 4 out of 40. This course treats it accordingly. You will write real scripts, not read about them. By the time you take the exam, chmod +x and $? will be muscle memory.

What you'll actually learn

  • Linux FundamentalsUnderstand the history, distributions, licensing, and the open source ecosystem from the ground up.
  • Command Line MasteryNavigate the filesystem, use the help system, manage files, and build confidence at the terminal.
  • Text Processing & ScriptingChain commands with pipes, redirect I/O, search with grep and regex, and write bash scripts that automate real tasks.
  • System Administration BasicsManage processes, inspect hardware, install packages on Debian and Red Hat, and configure basic networking.
  • Security & PermissionsCreate users and groups, set file permissions with chmod and chown, understand root vs regular users, and work with links.
  • Exam ReadinessPractice with 200+ questions weighted by exam domain. Full mock exams mirror the real 40-question, 60-minute format.
